Test for PED’s I get, but why does it matter what a player does in their free time if it isn’t giving them an unfair advantage. No need to reveal the results to the public other than drugs that are performance enhancing. Teams should be able to have their own regulations and set their own standards for players, choosing whether they want to test or not. More and more businesses these days are realizing that people want to enjoy their life, and as long as it’s not affecting their job, who cares. And if it does affect their job, then replace them because it’s their choice to take that risk.
Because Len Bias.
One guy always has to ruin it for everyone.
True if you mean its about the leagues image. If its about the players health than theyd probably be better off with a rehab program and a shorter suspension. Maybe they do have a rehab program for these guys but basically cutting off their only route t
Its the NBA he got lots of warnings and such Id imagine.
Sometimes I feel like peoples perception and knowledge of coke on Internet vs iRl is very different. Cocaine is literally a rich persons version of weed. Also tykreke was using way harder stuff then coke just like oj mayo was. Oj was rumored to be on t
Weed is the rich persons version of weed.
Yeah, you’ll get downvoted because the reddit hive mind is that weed shrooms lsd and mdma are all harmless but anything else is the devil, but coke actually has a lower physical addiction potential than weed. It’s a bunch of people that are super shel
>Cocaine is literally a rich persons version of weed. Ive always thought of it as the richer, safer persons meth tbh. Cocaine isnt exactly "hard" but In my opinion its where the scale starts to tip. Its practically impossible to overdo
Tbf dude got the fire shit on draft night and had probably been used to baby powder with a splash of blow most of his life.
That’s not how tbf works...
If you’re failing that many tests than you have a problem. That problem would still exist if they weren’t being tested. So while I get what you’re saying, it’s the ends would likely be the same.
I mean I have to take drug tests for work to....
So do I, but I operate heavy machinery. It’s a safety hazard. If you’re sitting behind a desk, or playing basketball, it doesn’t really matter.
Maybe because it can mess up teams salary cap if they invest in a guy that abuses drugs. If its something minor, like weed, then I agree with you. Would also be cool if the league invested in rehab for these guys like the WWE does.
NBA treats their dudes so much better than the WWE. They get health insurance, a pension I believe. WWE guys don’t get paid comparable to what they put their bodies through. They have to pay for their own travels and healthcare, no 401k or anything and
I agree with all that. It really is a joke how they are considered independent contractors in WWE. I was just thinking of a sports type organization that offers rehab. I didnt know NBA gives health insurance to all active players. I thought it was just r
Yeah weed is one thing, but when it’s cocaine, heroin, and other hard shit you have to do something to stop that from happening
Cocaine has a lower physical addiction potential than weed btw. Good clean powder blow is not “hard shit”.
One time I took acid and couldnt miss a shot when I played basketball maybe Curry is always tripping.
Are you sure you didn’t miss any shots, mayb the net just seemed big
I literally couldnt miss and I felt like Kawhi on defense. Just seeing shit before it happened. Tried it again and didnt get the same result though. I feel like it did help me as a player though.
These guys are being payed MILLIONS, stop acting like asking them not to use hard drugs is a big issue, Mr.Evans made his bed, now he has to lie in it.
Yeah maybe not hard drugs. I think weed and some psychedelics that are harmless and don’t improve performance shouldn’t come with punishments
Go look at the ratings and fan base the NBA lost in the late 70s. Bird and Magic did not save the league due to lack of talent in the 70s, it was because the superstars were doing lines at half time and the game was unwatchable and actually sad as you wat
Doing lines at half time made Lawrence Taylor one of the GOATs, so all Im hearing is we should bring it back.
This thread if anything has demonstrated how many people have never even seen cocaine in real life.
I mean Tyreke was on heroin and shit Im not sure if Id consider that "recreational"
i dont think the nba wants it known that their players are using illegal substances. obviously they will ban recreational drugs. every league will. its a danger to both the players and their PR if these drugs are used
Yeah that’s a really good point, I tried to address that I think I should have worded it better. I meant to say if they show up in a test there’s no need to reveal it to the public (the NHL does this with weed)
Lmao doesnt matter? The NBA is a business. Run by CEOs who are investing their own money into their team to make a profit. Theyre going to care if a player is doing drugs because youre less likely to reach their potential. If you have a smoking issue. Cha
Not that unpopular of an opinion I don’t think. I would agree that they should be able to do what they want
If you’re just talking about weed sure, but if you go into the harder drugs like meth and crack I’m not sure people are so quick to brush that aside. I, personally, don’t give a fuck like you, but I don’t think that’s a common consensus
I don’t even care about peds. It’s their body. We know that playing football drastically shortens NFL players life spans and most people seem chill with that. What’s the difference?
Not gonna say it’s THE reason but there’s a far bigger correlation between steroids and domestic abuse than any of the “drugs of abuse”
I know the OP stated recreational drugs specifically and not PEDs. PEDs is a key topic in Philosophy of Sport classes. PEDs can be dangerous when used improperly and without proper guidance and supervision. This shouldn’t theoretically be an issue when
Follow the rules
You can do all that shit in the off-season
There are very few businesses that are ok with you using recreational drugs. Most of them just cant afford to test for them.
I don’t know if this is that unpopular of an opinion.
I do not for one
Weed/Shrooms/LSD/non addicting drugs are okay everything else should be off limits when theyre playing.
Cocaine has a lower physical addiction potential than weed.
That is not true. Physiological, perhaps, but people coming down from coke often have physical symptoms such as the shakes and sweating, I’ve never seen that occur to anyone who smokes weed. Daily stoners that quit smoking often feel depressed or anxiou
If you restrict "recreational drugs" to weed, Im with you. Stimulants *can* give a performance advantage.
I think that makes a lot of sense. Not all drugs just certain ones that don’t affect performance and aren’t extremely harmful
Is this serious? Can’t be serious
Youre right, this is an unpopular opinion. Theres several issues with this: #1. Partaking in most of the drugs on the recreational drugs list is illegal. Whether you agree or disagree with it philosophically, that does not change the fact that using th
