I cant think of something like this ever happening in any other major sports league. I get the rationale behind making Anthony Davis play, but to me it makes the league seem a little bit like a joke by demanding he plays a certain amount of minutes. Its like the NFL equivalent of forcing Tom Brady to pass for a minimum of 18 passes every game. The league should not be able to dictate how many minutes a player plays, that should solely be decided by the team & coaching staff.
No other sports league (at least from an American perspective) is as star-driven as the NBA. Shitty for the Pelicans, but it makes sense from a business standpoint.
No it doesnt. How does it make sense from a business stand point that NBA can pick and choose which players can and cant play? If God forbid AD tears his ACL The Pelicans business I ruined. Why cant The Pelicans decide whats best for their long term fut
Ya but the pelicans tried shutting him down for the whole season.
I dont like the "r/nba is just a bunch of kids" narrative that is thrown around on here a lot but the reaction to the NBA treating AD being benched differently than Melo, JR or Parsons being benched makes me think a lot of users are still in grade school
nah bro JR is the exact same caliber player as AD, dont you get it
If youre healthy, and far and away your teams best player, you should be playing. The only reasons you wouldnt be playing are because you are injured or dealing with an emergency outside of basketball. A coach managing minutes is a *completely* differen
The Pelicans would lose money if AD is not playing, and thats a lose for the NBA honestly. Literally, the only reason New Orleans is recognizable on the map is because of AD.
I think the league over estimates how many people care to watch Davis or the Pelicans play. If he sat it wouldnt even make a big difference.
Allowing it would set a precedent, one that would not sit well with the players at all.
People act like Warrior Raptor or Laker fans wont wanna buy tickets to their home games because AD is resting. Only team it hurts is NO, and even so itd only hurts in the short term. NBA has rules so subjective that they can literally force teams to pla
Well they maybe could have gotten away with it if it wasn’t already public knowledge that AD is healthy. Obviously teams try whatever they can to get to rest players but to the nba it’s a business and it’s about selling tickets and if one of the bes
Adam Silver is a bum. He should put this much effort addressing the shitty officiating in this league.
The NBA is a healthy organization. Where teams need to make themselves worst to help big market teams or get punished
My little league baseball team required us to let the retarded kid play but jokes on them because he got hit by a pitch
