Ok so the answer is probably because none of us here watched basketball through out the 70s and 80s but that is still an extremely impressive run. Where would you rank him in an alltime list of NBA players? Is he the third greatest small forward in history? Would you rank him ahead of Kevin Durant (assuming Lebron and Bird are 1-2). Its a really really impressive career resume.
Didn’t he also play most of his career in the ABA? I think that might factor just a bit.
Only the first 5 years. They were his best years also. ABA: 29/12/5/2.4/2 NBA: 22/7/4/1.8/1.5
ABA titles arent equivalent to NBA titles. The stars at the top were just as good, but that doesnt mean they were facing NBA quality team competition along with their individual star matchups
I mean, NBA during 1970s were one of the weakest eras ever. ABA was better than NBA at the time.
> ABA titles arent equivalent to NBA titles They very much are, especially in the early 70s. Its just that the NBA was the brand that remained, and it has done its best to make people forget the ABA existed.
LeBron Bird Erving Durant
Maybe by the time he retires but I’m not comfortable saying that as of now
Its just a similar situation to Warren Moon. A little underrated from playing in a different league for several years.
His best years were in the ABA, and ever since the merger the NBA has been doing its best to pretend that the ABA never existed He is definitely ahead of KD and its at worst a tie with LeBron
